Abstract

The persistent and multifaceted dangers of insurgency in West Africa have posed substantial threats to regional stability, socioeconomic development, and human security, necessitating comprehensive strategies for effective counterinsurgency efforts. This study delves into the multifaceted dynamics of regional cooperation and insurgency in West Africa. The study relies on an array of primary and secondary sources, including interviews, scholarly studies, reports, and empirical data. 5 (Five) focal persons were interviewed and 15 stakeholders were purposely sampled to participate in a structured survey. The Regional Security Complex Theory (RSCT) was adopted as theoretical framework. Through content data analysis, this research reveals that informal networks and communication channels play a critical role in sharing intelligence, coordinating joint operations, and facilitating rapid information dissemination. The study reveals that the integration of traditional conflict resolution mechanisms within regional cooperation initiatives is highlighted as a transformative factor that enhances legitimacy, community trust, and effective communication in the fight against insurgency in West Africa. Building on these findings, the study advocates for the establishment of a Regional Fusion Center (RIFC) to facilitate seamless intelligence sharing and real time collaboration among other recommendations.
